About Us
Regularly reviewed, our centre philosophy reflects the views of our whole community – the educators, management, committee, parents, caregivers and whanau. Our statement of philosophy outlines important beliefs we hold as a Centre, and guides us with daily and long-term future decisions.
- We believe in providing children a safe, welcoming environment, in which to thrive
- We believe in providing stimulating opportunities (both planned and spontaneous) for all children, to extend themselves to become confident and competent explorers and learners – the basis for their future learning
- We believe our emergent curriculum reflects our knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki (NZ’s Early Childhood Curriculum) and the Desirable Objectives and Practices (DOPs)
- We believe all children need to be respected and valued as individuals, and also encouraged to be a contributing member of a group
- We understand an embrace the concept of Ako, in which staff and children collaborate together as teachers and learners
- We believe strongly in the importance of open communication and partnership between all participants in the centre – children, parents, whanau, staff, committee and the wider community
- We believe that New Zealand is a multi-cultural society and we endeavour to reflect this within our centre
- We acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa, encouraging tikanga and te reo daily in the Centre

Our Learning Programme
Using the emergent curriculum, our educators observe, document and brainstorm children’s current interests and passions to plan the learning programme. This can relate to one or a group of children. As our educators see an interest “emerging” they encourage ways to facilitate this interest by providing resources and materials to help guide the child’s learning, exploration and discovery.

Portfolios are used to record your child’s learning while they attend the Centre and are a valuable memory for your child to take when leaving for school. Children at the Centre are encouraged to look through their own portfolios which can include dated art-work, stages of development, photos, learning stories, “parent’s voice” and other forms of observation.
Our Professional Team
Our team of qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic staff all contribute their knowledge and experience with the goals of making a positive difference to the children we have the priviledge to care for.
