Pooh Corner Newsletter - April/May 2010
Hi there, we are well and truly into the 2nd term and seem to be heading towards the colder weather. The centre has had quite a few changes over the past couple of months, so it is definitely time for an update with the news at Pooh Corner.
Centre News As mentioned last month, very shortly the under 2’s will be getting a refurbished bathroom. The plans are now back from the architect and after comments from staff and committee have gone to builders for quotes. It has been indicated that the renovations may take approx. 2 weeks. Management and Staff will be working together to try and minimise disruption, but it is likely that there will be some. Please discuss any concerns you may have with Fiona and Kim. |
Staff News A big congratulations to Lynda. Lynda has now received her provisional teacher’s registration and also got married last month!! You may have noticed some new teaching faces and familiar faces at different times!! |
Under Two’s In the Under 2’s the children have been enjoying the ramp. It is exciting to watch the children’s abilities develop. Each child traverses it in their own style. Some crawl, some walk/run and others whizz up and down on their bikes. Water play has stopped but the children have also been enjoying sand play, carrying it in buckets and putting it into the boots of the toy cars. It is often mixed with bark chips which gives it some texture. |
Over Two’s The children have been learning the importance of healthy eating. The apples on the tree were picked and the children were able to taste them. They had a go at peeling some apples for cooking. This proved quite hard but they got there in the end. The apples were cooked and Lynda made crumble with some of the children to go on the top. The children thought made the apples yummier!! They also made healthy (ish) pizzas using some of the veggies out of the garden as toppings. |
Courses Donna has been on a course titled “Behaviour Guidance”. Nadine has completed a two day comprehensive first aid course. Donna and Diane attended a workshop entitled “Comaradie, Conflict and Communication”. Lynda attended a workshop “Creating a Bi-cultural environment” and has also commenced her advice and guidance programme for provisionally registered teachers.

Committee We discussed our strategic plan for the centre. The staff have had input into this also. There were many ideas which came out of this including more days when parents and caregivers could come along, cultural days, higher fences at the road frontage, pushing the ground area out at the back of the honeypot, a covered walkway leading into the centre. Please see Fiona for a copy if you are interested in the ongoing vision for the centre. |
| Did you Know? Duffy books have been handed out to all of the children. We are very grateful to be a part of this programme as it provides beautiful books to children to encourage reading from a young age!! Our AGM and election of officers will be held next month. Think about having a say in your child’s pre-school education and come along. There will be some portfolios to fill such as secretary and fundraiser or just be a part of the committee. See Fiona or Kim or Chrissy for details. |
That’s it for this month. Keep warm in the colder weather.
Take Care
